A letter from Devagiri College Calicut, Physics Department - Physics Alumni Association

The Department of Physics has great pleasure in inviting you to the one day National Seminar on Astronomy and Alumni Get-together to be held in the college on 10th October 2009, a joint venture of the Department and its Alumni.
Envisioned by the CMI congregation and established in 1956, St. Joseph's College, Devagiri, with more than fifty years of pioneering service in the field of higher education, has ten postgraduate departments and five research departments and a NAAC 'A' grade accreditation. The college is the mainstay of education for the student population of the Malabar region of Kerala.
The Physics Department of the college, established under the founder head Professor P.K. Achan, is one of the oldest departments of its kind in this region. The department was upgraded to a P.G. Department in 1999 and has an impressive record of producing excellent results in the university examinations. Moreover the process is underway for upgrading this to a research department.
The one day national seminar conducted by the department is part of the world wide celebrations of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA 2009). For the department, it is also a happy coincidence that the year is significant, as it happens to be the fiftieth year since the first undergraduate batch passed out. For the Physics Alumni Association, which supports this unique event, it is also an occasion for a memorable homecoming that promises academic deliberations and a lot more.
